Radiance - The Passion of Marie Curie
Written by Alan Alda.
Directed by Kathryn Barnes.
Marie Curie’s ground-breaking discovery of the chemical elements Radium and Polonium is reasonably well known, but this stage play, written by US actor and playwright Alan Alda, portrays the intellectual, determined and passionate woman behind the history.
In the early 20th century, women were not recognised as scientists or considered for awards such as the Nobel Prize. The play is set between 1898 and 1911 during the time leading up to her two Nobel Prize awards, when Marie Curie faced and overcame discrimination, ethnic bigotry, family tragedy and sexual scandal to achieve a discovery which would revolutionse medicine, chemistry and physics, saving thousands of lives and destroying others.
Inspiring, tragic and thought-provoking. This is the story of Marie Curie.
